GMSA to Teach a Series of Free Training on Plain Language

Writing information in Plain Language is a fundamental way to include people with intellectual and developmental disabilities—as well as English language learners —in your work. Green Mountain Self-Advocates hope that by sharing what we have learned, we can help government and non-profit organizations create accessible documents in Plain Language. Here is the Zoom link for all events:

Webinar #1 – Basic Principles for Creating Accessible Information

March 24, 2023, 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm

Cognitive accessibility is not about cutting out information. It is about conveying complex information in a way that most people can understand. What principles should everyone follow when writing in an accessible way? What generally affects reading level? How can you work with self-advocates to make sure your writing is effective? Learn the answers to these questions and more in this introductory webinar, with time for questions and answers.

Webinar #2 Plain Language Writing is a Skill

April 14, 2023, 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm

We can write about complicated information at low reading levels – and we should! This session will teach specific features of Plain Language writing. It will include activities to practice translating information into Plain Language.

Webinar #3 Person-Centered Planning Documents in Plain Language

May 122023, 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm

Learn how to write and present person-centered planning information in an accessible way. We will practice translating typical planning information into plain language. Our goal is to make it easier for people with IDD (Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities) to participate in their planning process.
